"A look at the McCoy Hotel from the west bank of Rock Creek in 1916. If the bridge was only able to talk, think of the many interesting stories it could tell about the many travelers that passed over it between Wolcott and Routt County. Flood waters took it out twice, in 1952 when the King Mountain Reservoir dam gave way and again when high water took it out in 1962. After that it was never replaced." -- McCoy Memoirs, p.95.

Hollis "Holly" Kelloway Brooks came to Eagle County from Minnesota, settling first in McCoy and then operating a general store in Edwards. From 1926 to 1929, he was the County treasurer. In 1931 and through the 1940s, he owned and operated the Bar X Ranch (formerly the Castle Peak Ranch) in Eagle.

A mountain scene with river, pines, columbines, hummingbird, elk and riderless horse is engraved on the marker. The family brand is engraved at center bottom.
