After the war John and his family purchased a ranch in Routt County, and John went on to make numerous contributions to the Yampa Valley including establishing the Steamboat Springs ski resort.

Basic components of freestyle skiing are explained and two freestyle skiers, Park Smalley and Rusty Taylor, describe their experiences learning the skills and competing in freestyle skiing. Park also talks about the amateur freestyle team he started in Steamboat Springs. Of note several members Park's amateur team later became Olympians.
