This poignant image was captured by Vail Fire Lieutenant, Mark Mobley, on 19 October 1998. The image is provided courtesy of Vail Fire Department and found in a Vail Daily article by Ed Stoner on 9 May 2007. John Duran was the Vail Fire Chief, while John Gulick served as Assistant Fire Chief. Also involved were Vail firefighters Mike Vaughan, Dave Eich and Craig Davis.

Morrie Shepard grew up with Pete Seibert, the visionary of Vail, and worked closely with Seibert during the founding of Vail. Beginning in 1962, Shepard was Vail Mountain's first Ski School Director.

In 1963, Merv Lapin arrived in the Gore Creek Valley and at the fledgling Vail Ski Area. He has been active in Vail community affairs since day one. As the son and grandson of Lithuanian immigrants, Lapin understands the values of hard work, community spirit and the universal language of sport.

Featured near the front of in the Vail Public Library galleria is a bronze plaque commemorating the library's dedication on 4 July 1983. Snowdon and Hopkins Architects was named the best design in a Vail Town Council timed architectural contest. The design received an Award of Excellence given jointly by the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and American Library Association (ALA).
