"Sam and Russell's mother was Cora Fenno (daughter of Emma Fenno Graham), who married Joe Carter in Leadville in 1904. Soon after that, the two took up a homestead in the pretty draw that bears their name. They continued living in Leadville, 'proving up' on the land during the summer. Then in the 1920s, they built a two-story white clapboard...
