The soldiers departing for battle in World War II receive a fitting sendoff as trains transporting six-million G.I.'s stop in Platte, Nebraska and the residents of 125 nearby towns gather to shower them with gifts and wish them well in their patriotic duties. As they make their way to the battlefield, the young American soldiers set to put their life on the line in the name of freedom experience the boundless generosity of their neighbors as they are showered with sandwiches, sweets, cigarettes, magazines, and patriotic cheers. Now, through photographs and interviews with the people who were there to experience this historical sendoff firsthand, the remarkable stories of the citizens and soldiers give testament to the strength of the American spirit in the face of great adversity. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi
